God chooses who he uses and he uses who He chooses.

Mom shared some of her testimony today with our bible study class.  Thankful and amazed that God transformed the lives of my parents and took them from partying pot heads to grace filled,  forgiving, loving people…who still like to have a “high” but stay full on their “Jesus High”

They didn’t really even begin their journey with the Lord until 33 years old.  And WOW have they done some amazing things with Gods help, guidance and leading.

Thankful that God set me apart at a young age, gave me to my parents, and made it easy for me to walk the Christian walk.  But the truth is that God chooses who he uses and he uses who he chooses.  Seems natural that God would choose someone like me but it also seems natural that God would choose someone like them too!  God isn’t a respecter of persons hes not concerned with your resume, what you “Think” your good or gifted at… God has chosen each of us.  We are all his children he has chosen us and He is using us.  Where ever we are and whatever we are doing is making a difference because we, the children of God, are there.

Stop undervaluing yourself…You are a creation of Gods!  A creation that he began and is continuing to shape and create.  Surround yourself with others whos shape and “smell” you like.

Chris and I just celebrated 12 years of marriage last weekend.  We are not the same people we were 12 years ago.  Some of him has rubbed off on me some of me has rubbed off on him and we are becoming even more unified each year.  Love what God is doing and shaping in our marriage…I wouldn’t be me without Chris.  What a gift he is to me.

Proverbs 12:26 The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.

Psalm 25:12 Who, then, are those who fear the Lord? He will instruct them in the ways they should choose.

Galatians 1:15 But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by his grace…

Isaiah 43:18  forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.

Thrive

Stop simply surviving and start Thriving

I’m coming to the realization that just as I am changing so are my children.  At 8, 5, and 2 ½ they no longer need me to actually survive, now they need me to THRIVE.  They know how to find something to eat, get a stool and a cup to get water from the fridge 2 of the three can dress them selves, and potty alone.  So while they don’t need me as much to care for their physical needs so they can survive my role is switching.

I want them to not be people who simply survive in this world but individuals who will thrive.  Im not asking they become some crazy independent leader that solo can change the world I’m praying that they learn how to Thrive by being a follower.  Not a follower of bad world views but first a follower of Christ…  a true discipleHe will call them to be leaders but not because they feel overwhelmed but because they are in him who is the vine they are the branches apart from Him they can do nothing.

My boys are becoming independent but they do still need my presense now more than ever.  Just as I need my heavenly father to guide and lead my every step. I read today Lisa Turkurst one good descision leads to another good choice, then to another good choice eventually leading to victory.

If I want God to give me a victorious life on every level I must depend on Him to thrive.  If I try to survive on my own I will not thrive. I will not thrive.  I will simply survive.  That’s not living a life God has planned one of abundant overwhelming love, that is filled with all the fruits of a tree planted by Gods never giving up never running out river.  On my own I will die, wither, feel stale, not have any wisdom to offer, no encouragement. Everything good and perfect is from the Lord. I must seek him in all situations for me and for my children.

Its time to stop simply surviving and to truly begin to thrive.

Psalm 78:15 He split the rocks in the desert and gave them water as abundant as the seas-  God works all things for his Good.  When I’m at a hard spot I can be thankful for that rock.  God will spilt the rock wide open my desert place will no longer be dry.  His water is as abundant as the seas…HUGE, seas give power, a place for animals to live, thrive and grow, water for plants, and people, transportation to new lands….Thankyou God for the Rocks you WILL SPILT WIDE OPEN that will transform into abundant seas!  Help me not to be someone gasping for air, nearly drowning in this life that I live but let me rise above the waves, ride the waves, float where you take me, trusting that while the seas are changing the one who controls the changing waters is always constant.  Please keep me Lord.  Please Hold Me Lord. Please teach me how to THRIVE and not just survive.

Underwhelm so he can Overwhelm

January 21, 2015

It was probably this time in my life years ago when Mason was 2 that I had the thought of blogging.  A lot due to the fact that family was out of state and wanted an easy way for them to feel connected to our growing boy, I wanted an outlet for me to express my self, someone (the computer) to talk to during the day while my amazing husband was at work …then life happened. I had another baby, then my mom discovered she had cancer, I discovered I was pregnant again….life happened I got busy.

Now life feels manageable again.  I don’t feel as overwhelmed.  Loved what I read the other day…”God can underwhelm your schedule so he can overwhelm your soul”  So now that I am back at the place where I feel like one of my kids saying  “God, I’m board” I’m not wanting to fill my time for the sake of filling up my schedule.  I love the life that has “happened”  I know that life is constantly changing and I want God to be the one leading.  I don’t want to jump. I want to wait. I want to trust.  I want to clearly hear.  Im excited to take this approach. What is next for me as a mom of  3 boys (8, 5 and 2)  They are my priority.  God don’t ever let me get out of focus.  I know I’m not alone being on the horizon of a “career change” Im happy my boys are growing up, that they don’t need me as much to simply survive now I understand my purpose is more to be here to help them thrive.  SO NOW WHAT!  Yes I know I need to draw near to God, to learn to hear Him more clearly. To pray and talk to him really seek him through the day, be alert and watch for him speaking.  He will direct me!

Love it when this happens.  Just felt like I should read proverbs 16.

1  To man belong the plans of the heart, but from the Lord comes the reply of the tongue.

3  Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.

9  In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.

20 Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.

21 The wise in heart are called discerning and pleasant words promote instruction.

31 Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained by a righteous life.

33 The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord.

God is in control. God is Good.  God will speak to me. My plans (His Plans) will succeed.  The Lord WILL determine my steps.  I need to learn how to hear him so I can heed his instruction. Do I really trust him? Are my words pleasant promoting instruction?  Be happy that I am getting older, be thankful for the righteous life God has blessed me with- it’s a Gift from Him!  Don’t worry or stress “WHAT NOW”  Every decision is from the Lord!

FiA Blog Post

Become part of the one, beautiful, mesmerizing big picture.
FiA came in a time in my life when I was experiencing multiple areas of change.  My mother was reaching the one year anniversary of being cancer free, my husband and I had just changed churches and I was finishing up nursing my third boy, the last of my babies.  ‘Lois Lane’ had invited me to join FiA in the past but I always had an excuse.  She mentioned it again and I was at a place that I honestly didn’t have an excuse, other than sleep, and in light of my moms battle with breast cancer and the sweet boys God had blessed me with, I felt a strong desire and need to do my part to be in good physical health.  SO I told my self that if I happened to wake up at 5:00am vs my usual 7:00am that I would go.  The very next morning I just happened to wake up at 5:00am on the dot!   I quietly rustled around in the dark and found some clothes, tiptoed past my boys bedroom and drove off to embark on a new change in my life. A new relationship with FiA, not just one person, a group, an opportunity to get closer to who I was created to be.  A relationship I hope to have for the rest of my life.  FiA named me “Kaleidoscope”. A kaleidoscope is a cylinder with mirrors containing loose, colored objects such as beads or pebbles and bits of glass. On the outside it appears to be a simple cardboard tube but as the viewer looks into one end, light entering the other creates a colorful pattern, due to the reflection off of the mirrors. The more the viewer changes the position of the kaleidoscope the more new images can be seen.

I know its just a nick name, but for me it really is what FiA is for me.  I’ve never considered myself an athlete. More like one of the “Skinny Fat People” I read about, naturally thin on the outside but not very healthy on the inside.  Much like the big picture image in a kaleidoscope changes with the slightest move, so began my journey with FiA. The more and more I allowed myself to change, simply by waking up a little earlier, the better I felt, the more energy I had to be a wife, mom, daughter and friend.  The big picture of my life was changing. My relationships got stronger, deeper, more healthy! I became stronger! ‘Steele’ led us on a fitness challenge and I barely ran a mile in under 10 min, could hardly do 20 sit ups and couldn’t even do a pull up.  Each morning I continued to come, before I realized it I had changed! I didn’t wonder if I was going to set my alarm to wake up, it just became something that I did without even thinking.  I was now connected, FiA was a relationship.   A relationship that was creating a beautiful kaleidoscope pattern for my life.

Relationships come in different forms.  Relationship between husband and wife, mother and son, friend to friend, creator and creation.  Relationships change. Each individual relationship shapes us. Relationships take you somewhere. Move you to something new. They are a catapult for change.  The slightest shift can change the entire picture. Looking into a kaleidoscope is dynamic, ever changing, Its challenging to keep up with, but when you look at the big picture…mesmerizing.  Change is sometimes a welcoming face and at others a scary idea.  Change is often necessary for us to continue to become who we were created to be.  Often times I don’t want to change because I feel like its simply easier to stay where I am, I am comfortable with my picture of life at the moment I tell myself that the grass would be greener on the other side but I also know that it would still have to be mowed. Its hard to deal with the initial struggle in the beginning stages to get to where I see that I want to be.  Sometimes I recognize an area that needs to be changed and sometimes I realize I have changed without even remembering when I took the first step toward a change I needed!  Of all of the relationships that have led me to changes the one I am most grateful for is my relationship with my creator, my savior, my friend…Jesus Christ.  When Jesus leads me to change its an easier change than with other relationships.  I don’t have to try to figure it out on my own, plan out every detail…instead I can let go, and let him be the “real---ship” that takes me, leads me, holds me, understands me, knows me and enters me into an opportunity to consistently be loved and accepted in spite of who I am on my own. In spite of the influences I’ve allowed others to reflect on me. Somehow, a holy God, chooses to continue to change me.  Sometimes I know the change is needed and I am willing, sometimes He walks me through it kicking and screaming but I know that I am ready to go somewhere, I want to be on a ship that leads to life, a ship that has a future, a ship that isn’t intimidated by the waves but instead is ready to overcome.

God has used FiA in my life to remind me that He has given me one body.  I can have lots of relationships with individuals and they will come and go, changing me, reflecting some of themselves on me and I in turn reflect who I am on them and as much as I might want to be in control of all of my relationships, I can’t.  But what I can do is take the right steps to take control of my health, my attitude.  I can be the best that I can be! I can strive to be a reflection of something greater than me and allow something beautiful to happen when I am walking in the reflection and light of God.  FiA has taken me from being a “skinny fat girl” who would have never considered herself an athlete and held me up to a new light, (even if its still physically dark outside) changed me, and in the moments when the burpees seem to be too much, the hill seems to big and the dips have my arms almost frozen… with encouraging words of FiA, …I choose to keep changing, keep moving and I feel the presence of God in the midst of those physical moments and the practice with those FiA struggles has led me to more victory in other areas that I may struggle with after I wipe the wet grass and mud from my clothes and drive away from my time with FiA.  I can now run a mile in 7.43 seconds, I never knew what a frog jump was or that I was good at it. I didn’t know what a bear crawl was or what it meant to Indian run and I never knew that I actually AM an athlete.  Thanks FiA I hope I continue to live up to my name Kaleidosope, and constantly keep changing!  I hope my relationships as creation, wife, mother, daughter, friend and now FiA only get stronger as they continue to change.  Every piece in a kalidiscope is important to the whole.  It starts small, with many different pieces. You are one of those pieces. I am one of those pieces. Don’t be afraid to contribute your piece, so that it can be reflected back and forth within the shifting paradigm of life, and become part of the one, beautiful, mesmerizing big picture.

home

Right now we have 2 houses one we constantly try to keep clean so someone will want to buy it and one that seems a constant mess as we try to fix it up! I'm really hoping that beginning next week Rick and Ron will be finished with all the hard stuff and we can get in there and begin painting, getting the cabinets in and the floors..... But in the midst of cleaning and working on both houses one thing is for sure the 'home' that we have is still going strong!

Mason still wakes us up when it is exactly a 7 on his clock! I hear a big creak, thump, pitter patter pitter patter as he runs down the hall to touch my shoulder to say "mommy, its a 7 on my cwock" Buzz Lightyear and I proceed down stairs where he bangs the metal folding stool to reach and measure the right amount of coffee for me and daddy then proceeds with his favorite breakfast choice WAFFELS!!! All the while Micah is sound asleep! Once Micah wakes up sometimes he wants to get out of his crib but most days he just laughs, rolls around and doesn't really want you to get him out, but that could be because he knows the FIRST thing we will do is change his diaper (he HATES getting his diaper changed) At breakfast he always asks for "mo milk peas" while tilting his head and flashing a little pout /grin. When he tastes his food he lets you know "mm, tase ood" (yumm tastes good) And if anything gets on his hands while hes eating you'll see him raise his hand and eyebrows to say in a very concerned voice "HAANNS" meaning- oooh I have something on my hand Quick! Get a Napkin! When we ask him most anything his answer will be "yeth" In fact sometimes I ask him a question I know he will say yes to just so I can hear him to say "yeth" However sometimes his answer causes him to wrinkle his eyes and mouth, tilt his head and point his finger as he says " Hmmmmm, dis" or "Hmmmm Yeth" that answer may even be cuter than the simple "yeth" Its also super cute to hear him say "Kaay" When he says it the 'ay' at the end goes up to a higher pitch and he nods his head really quick- hes so happy about it! Hes always been so agreeable, he wants to cooroporate and even in a tough situation, for him, like church nursery, he trys to be so brave and when Chris tells him "Mommy and Daddy wiill be back to get you after you play with your friends" Micah responds with teary eyes and pitiful face and they 'ay' at the end going down a note along with his nodding head "Kaay" For the first time this past Sunday Micah FINALLY seemed to be enjoying himself at church and he turned from his table of toys and swung that little right arm to run as fast as he could to daddy, but this time with a smile vs tears!

During the day Mason has been soo into coloring lately, he will sit and color for an hour at a time easy, paying very close attention to what he should color what, using a mix of crayons and colored pencils. Today he got a set of 3 crayons with a coloring book at a little Stranger Danger meeting we went to and was coloring and needed orange so he just colored lightly yellow and red to make his own orange! I love to see him figure stuff out and look at the pride on his face as he shows me his finished masterpiece! Meanwhile Micah will be off in a corner playing by himself he loves the little people school bus and loves to give his duck a ride, speaking of rides he loves to ride the stick horse we have and says "hosee, hosee" he also likes to pretend Chris is a horse too! When we go to the play set in the back yard Mason loves to pretend he is on the show "Jake and the Neverland Pirates" and enlists all of us as the crew on his ship: He has named himself "Jake", I'm "Izzy" and Micah is "Cubby" We have played this so much that the other day and everyday since then, as soon as we get to the play set Micah lays down pretending some swamp monster or crocodile has hold of his leg trying to pull him down the slide as he screams "JAKE" clear as day Micah says "JAKE" in a very concerned voice too...its the funniest thing too, Mason thinks I'm participating because I just love to sprinkle pixi dust but really its because I love to watch Micah call for "JAKE" he cant say Mason yet but he calls him "Payson" Micah asks "Payson" to play with him all the time, and he wants him to see what hes doing and he wants to do EVERYTHING "Payson" can!

We have so many fun little memories in this house and I love this house so much and I know its going to be a great one for someone else I just really want it to sell so I can be even more excited about the new memories in the new house! SOOO while figuring out the two houses is kinda crazy the kids that make our house a home are keeping me on my toes and are a constant reminder that the best things in life aren't things!
